The Golden Touch

"And they shall make for me a dwelling place, and I will rest in them." (Shemos 25:8)

Our Chachomim teach us that the plurality in "them" refers to the personal Mishkan that every Yid creates for Hashem in his own life.

This refers to the dedication of time; for Davening, learning, Mitzvos, etc. and the dedication of place and material belongings; setting aside from our finances, home, and the physical sacrifices we make to support our Tafkid and our Avodas Hashem.

Reish Lakish said: The world was not worthy of receiving gold. Why, then, was it created? For the Mishkan and Beis Hamikdash. (Bereishis Rabba, 16:2)

When enumerating the laws of building the Beis Hamikdosh, the Rambam writes that, if it is feasible, the Yidden are required to coat (cover) the Beis Hamikdosh in gold.

The Rebbe teaches us that we, too, have "gold"; personal "gold, and it, too, was only created for the purpose of beautifying our personal Mishkan for Hashem.

For one, the "gold" may be free time; for another, the ability to quickly grasp information, for another it may be monetary prosperity.

The Yetzer Hara tries to convince us that to satisfy our commitment to our Avodah, we can suffice with the bare minimum. He tries to hold us back from coating our Beis Hamikdosh with "gold". He tries to distract us from dedicating our "gold" of time, place, money, etc. for our Mishkan.

What a joy it is to recognize the blessings of "gold" that Hashem has granted us, and utilize them for the beautification of our Mishkan and Beis Hamikdosh.

What "gold" was I blessed with? How am I going to dedicate it for my Mishkan?
